Bonfire Studio founder - Sara

Sara MacQueen is the founder of Bonfire Studio, a boutique web design studio that builds modern, custom websites for established organizations.

With over 20 years of experience spanning digital marketing, social media marketing, SEO, workflow automation and software development, Sara brings an unusually broad foundation to running a web design company.

Sare holds certifications in Duda and HubSpot SEO and also leads a software development company, giving Bonfire Studio a depth of technical and business experience that few web design studios can offer.

About Sara

Sara started building websites in college — designing and developing sites for local businesses while earning her Computer Science degree.

After graduation, she gravitated towards creative endeavors, working as a graphic designer before moving into digital marketing and eventually founding Big Fish, first as a digital and social media agency, then as a custom software and app development firm for over ten years.

Throughout all of it, websites remained a constant — for clients, for her own companies, and eventually as a dedicated practice of its own.

She founded Bonfire Studio in 2023 to bring real business experience and high standards to an industry where the process is often more painful than it needs to be.

Bonfire's clients have included healthcare practices, field service businesses, construction firms, and local businesses — organizations that are operationally complex, often growing, and don't have time to become project managers for a website rebuild.

That context shapes how her web design studio works: asking the right questions upfront, guiding decisions, and keeping projects moving.

Sara also leads a software development company — which means Bonfire Studio is built on a technical foundation that goes well beyond what most web design studios bring to the table, and a genuine understanding of what it takes to build digital products that hold up over time.

How I Think About This Work

A great website needs to do more than look good

Design and branding matter — they're how a business shows up, and they should be done well. But aesthetics alone don't make a website work. Structure, search visibility, and clarity are just as important. A website needs to be beautiful and findable and easy to navigate. All three.

Most websites don't fail at launch — they fail over time

A website goes live, and it's exciting — then everyone moves on. Content falls out of date. Forms break quietly. Nobody notices until leads stop coming in. Ownership after launch isn't a nice-to-have — it's what determines whether the investment holds up over time.

The process should be easy for our clients

A website project shouldn't take over your calendar or become another internal responsibility to manage. When the right questions get asked upfront and expert guidance is given, the project moves — and clients are often surprised by how easy and enjoyable the whole thing felt.

Competence and care, in equal measure

The best client relationships are built on trust, clear communication, and the sense that someone genuinely cares about the outcome. That's not something we treat as a bonus — it's how Bonfire Studio operates. We're not running an agency model. We're in it with you.
